1. Kona

Kona-side has relaxing and chilled-out vibes. It has the most beautiful pristine beaches. Some don’t have many rocks on the seafloor, so it’s easy to jump in and swim. They are gorgeous. This town is on the west side of the island and is known as a rad vacation spot. The area is mostly sunny. Not only are the beach spots spectacular, but the nightlife and town are also packed with lots to do. This is a spot to go for an adventurous time to meet new people.

Hilo is surrounded by a country area but has a thriving medium-sized town. The area is also sprinkled with waterfalls and small surfing spots. Hilo Town has a lot more rain compared to the other places, but it is surrounded by beautiful rainforests. However, it is a nice mix between town and nature. The shopping centers are filled with nice little shops, restaurants, and farmer’s markets while quick hikes and beach stops are just down the street.

Kohala is separated into a North and South Kohala. In the North, there are the towns of “Halaʻula, Hāwī, and Kapaʻau” (2). The road to the North is filled with grooves of rainbow eucalyptus and gorgeous valleys that overlook the ocean. Well, Pololū Valley is one out of seven valleys within the Kohala Mountains. There are amazing hikes and dunes to explore. This destination is for the adventurer, but also for those that enjoy simple quiet sunsets on the beach.

4. Volcano

Volcano Village is a very small town inland of Hilo Town. The area is surrounded by natural forest reserves perfect for long nature walks. This is where you’ll visit Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park with the possibility of seeing flowing red lava. Visiting Kilauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes is the main tourist activity. Though the national park has a children’s play area that is perfect for families. Just so you know, the town has comfortable inns away from busy beaches.

5. Waimea

Finally, Waimea is a part of South Kohala. The area has a beautiful canyon with waterfalls as seen in the photo above. Visiting Waimea Canyon State Park is something you must do. Yet, less than 30 minutes away from the spectacular sight is the beach town of Waimea. The area has lots of country-styled places as well as beach resorts to stay overnight. There are also a good number of shopping spots as well as eateries to visit too.
